A very long rain

The great British public are only slightly put off by hideous weather.  Street parties moved inside, soggy cucumber sandwiches were eaten under umbrellas and thousands of people still lined the banks of the Thames and sat in Battersea Park to watch a flotilla sail down the Thames.

Our town had planned a big Picnic with an It's a Knockout competition on the Prom.  It was too cold for a picnic but the competition went ahead as planned, with 10 teams turning up full of enthusiasm.  My son had a team of friends, called Team Unleashed.  Their supporters froze.

The heart of the community was there.  The same people that you see at every event.  It seems as though the heart of our community is just a little bit nuts!

My son's team didn't come last or break any bones, despite trying very hard.  This was even more impressive as the other teams were mainly adults and sporty people.

The winning team were very happy.

Even with the exceptional rain.  It was a great way to celebrate our town and 60 years of the Queen's reign.
